On Saturday Arklow U18 boys got their Leinster League off to a winning start. It was great to see a number of players back from injury and extended GAA duties.

The Wexford squad travelled with low numbers. Special thanks to Aidan Fox and Ned Scott for stepping up and allowing a fully contested game.

Arklow started the game brightly, applying a lot of pressure which yielded a try early in the game after a strong run by Fionn Vigors. Arklow consolidated this with two further tries until Wexford hit back half way through the first half. This was responded to with a great break by Luke Purser which was finished by Ryan O Neill after running a strong support line.

Arklow finished the half strong with some more scores and went in at half time with a comfortable lead. The second half saw Wexford score another hard worked and well deserved try and Arklow consolidated their lead with several well worked scores.

Arklow will have been pleased to see the returned players getting a good run and happy with the victory.

Aiden Fleming put in a very strong performance with many dominant tackles. Ryan O Neill settled in well back at out half running strong lines, tackling well and directing play to good effect. Ethan Whitney put in a strong shift with a number of jackals. Fionn Vigors only back from injury stood out with an all action display.

Arklow players will be happy with their performance. The backline at times showed the potential they have and the pack worked hard. However the team has work to do in all areas to face the challenge of Tullow away next week-end.
